چکیده
This is the report of the 63rd of a series of workshops organised by the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM). ECVAM’s main objective, as defined in 1993 by its Scientific Advisory Committee, is to promote the scientific and regulatory acceptance of alternative methods which are relevant to the biosciences and which reduce, refine or replace the use of laboratory animals. One of the first priorities set by ECVAM was the implementation of procedures that would permit the acquisition of expertise about the stateof-the-art of non-animal test development and validation, and the potential for incorporating such alternative tests into regulatory procedures. It was decided that this would be best achieved through a programme of ECVAM workshops, each addressing a specific topic, and at which selected groups of independent international experts would review the current status of various types of in vitro tests and their potential uses, and make recommendations about the best ways forward. The workshop entitled Physiologically-based Kinetic Modelling (PBK Modelling): Meeting the 3Rs Agenda was held at ECVAM (Ispra, Italy) on 10–12 October 2005, building upon a programming meeting held at Ispra on 31 May and 1 June 2005. The participants included international experts in PBK modelling and in the risk assessment of chemical products, from academia, regulatory or risk assessment advisory bodies, and industry. The objectives of the workshop were:

In October 2006, the European Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM) sponsored and hosted a three-day workshop to consider opportunities and challenges in the development of alternative methods for the identification and characterisation of chemical respiratory allergens. The proceedings, conclusions and recommendations of that workshop were subsequently made available as ECVA...
متن کاملFrom in vitro to in vivo: Integration of the virtual cell based assay with physiologically based kinetic modelling
Physiologically based kinetic (PBK) models and the virtual cell based assay can be linked to form so called physiologically based dynamic (PBD) models. This study illustrates the development and application of a PBK model for prediction of estragole-induced DNA adduct formation and hepatotoxicity in humans. To address the hepatotoxicity, HepaRG cells were used as a surrogate for liver cells, wi...
متن کاملECVAM’s Progress in Implementing the 3Rs in Europe
ECVAM is an international reference centre for the development and validation of alternative testing methods aimed at the replacement, reduction or refinement of the use of laboratory animals in the biomedical sciences, with emphasis on toxicological assessments. ECVAM was established by a communication of the European Commission (SEC 91/1794) to the European Parliament and Council referring to...

متن کاملKinetic Modelling of Methanol to Propylene Process on Cerium-hierarchical SAPO-34 Catalyst
In this paper, conventional SAPO-34 and Cerium Hierarchical SAPO-34 zeolites are synthesized using a hydrothermal method for methanol-to-propylene (MTP) reaction. The Ce-H-SAPO-34 catalyst shows a slightly larger crystal size, bimodal pore size distribution (microporous and mesoporous) and lower surface acidity compared to conventional SAPO-34 catalysts. According to these physicochemical prope...
